Medical Department Medicines & Instruments.

$1,110,000 was provided in 1950/51 estimates of the Medical Department for the provision of medicines and instruments. A supplementary provision of $150,000 was approved in January of this year and a further supplementary provision of $104,064 was found to be necessary and was approved this week.

The excess

is accounted for by increased number of patients attending for treatment and the general upward trend in the cost of drugs and instruments.

As the total supplementary expenditure exceeds $250,000 per annum, approval is required in accordance with paragraph 3 of your despatch No.302 of 25th September, 1948.
